Activity is in full swing at the west end of Portage la Prairie, as the province is bringing the reality of a new overpass closer and closer.

Portage la Prairie MLA Ian Wishart brings us up to date on the progress.

"We need, of course, the traffic to be able to flow around the construction site and that's what we're at now -- establishing the traffic ways both for eastbound and westbound, and also to allow for people to come into the city of Portage from the west, in particular," says Wishart. "They are making good progress despite some pretty wet weather and we're all looking forward to it. I certainly would encourage people to have some patience."

Wishart acknowledges it's awkward for the time being, but the end result is necessary, as all will agree.

"We need the overpass raised and reestablished, and I think it'll be worth the wait and the trial of our patience to get the end result," continues Wishart. "That finish date is always sort of subject to weather and how much time the contractor has. They seem to be very committed to this project. They've been working at it at every opportunity."
