The CN Police and Portage RCMP continue to investigate an accident involving a train and an adult male.  The RCMP received a report around 2:30 yesterday morning regarding the incident.  A brief search revealed an adult male had been struck while riding his bike near the tracks.  It's not known who the male is or where he's from--he was transported from Portage District General Hospital to Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre where he is suffering from a variety of serious injuries including a severed right foot.  Portage RCMP Constable Dave Spakowski says the tracks are the property of CN and CP rail and people need to know to stay off the property and away from the tracks.
He adds there isn't much railways can do to improve safety aside from increasing knowledge regarding the dangers of being near the tracks.  The man remains in critical condition.
