The holiday season is approaching, and while many Portagers are out getting their Christmas shopping early, there are some who can't afford it.

The Salvation Army in Portage is getting ready for the holiday season.  Salvation Army Captain, B.J. Loder explains there are many ways someone can help make sure someone else who is less fortunate has the chance for a happy holiday.

Toys, and non-perishable food items are also acceptable for donations.  He adds if Portagers would like they can also mail in their cash donations to the Salvation Army located in Portage.

Loder adds the biggest need right now is to get the word out about the Salvation Army's Christmas Hamper program and where donations can be made.  He notes there is also a need for volunteers to help out run the hampers at various locations as well as manage the Salvation Army kettles.

He believes the City and RM of Portage will open their hearts this year and make a difference in many lives this holiday season.
