This past Labour Day weekend, the Manitoba Old Tyme Bluegrass Festival happened at Shady Oaks Campground.

The Manitoba Bluegrass Society hosts the festival. Founding member Bob Benedictson describes it as a profitless organization, and explains how the society came to be.

"There were about five of us," says Benedictson. "We thought we'd get together and promote this old tyme and bluegrass music. So we met in the winter-time of 1979. About that time we figured we'd get it all set up."

Since then they've grown to over 100 members. The festival at Shady Oaks this year was the 20th annual. Festival goers enjoyed free music in the evenings, gospel shows on Sunday, and participated in bluegrass music workshops.
