Despite giving up a pair of 2 goal leads the Portage Terriers picked up the 5-4 win last night over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in overtime.

The Terriers got on the board in the first minute as Michael Knaub got his first as a Terrier, deflecting it in at the side of the net. 6 minutes later Adam Wowryk finished off a pass from the corner as Wolverine goalie Brandon Holtby had bobbled the puck.

The Wolverines would respond quickly scoring two goals three minutes apart. The first was a point shot from former Terrier Kristjon Finnson. The second was a smooth breakaway deke by Rhett Lough. Before the first was over, Brock Weston continued his hot streak as his point shot found its way through Holtby.

Halfway through the second period forward Brad Bowles was ejected from the game for a hit from behind. The Terriers killed off the penalty, but the lines were jumbled up for the remainder of the game and young forwards Nick Henry and Chase Brakel picked up the slack. As the second was coming to an end Brett Orr scored on the power play with just 12 seconds left.

The third frame saw Waywayseecappo bounce back. Newcomer, former Central Plain Capital, Tyler Ham scored a nice goal off the rush. It would be his first as a Wolverine. Less than 30 seconds later another local boy, Johl Swedlo, would tie the game at 4 as he took a pass from the corner. That fourth goal would spell the end for Terrier goaltender Travis Klassen who let in 4 goals on 16 shots. Nathan Park would come in in relief.

In overtime it would be Nick Henry who would play the hero. Dean Stewart flipped a pass his way on a 2 on 1 rush, which Henry batted out of mid air past the outstretched goalie.

The Terriers now have a few days off until they face Winnipeg on Thursday.
