A music historian recently visited students at Portage Collegiate Institute.

John Einarson was invited by Blair Hordeski and Shane Sobkowich to inform students of rock history that come from Portage la Prairie and throughout Manitoba.

Sobkowich is a teacher at PCI and shares it's important to teach local histories of all sorts to provide them with a better understanding of what comes out of our home base. He notes, Portage, Manitoba, and Winnipeg have been great providers of rock greats at an international level, and he believes students need to understand that.

Einarson gave the presentation he calls Shaking All Over - The Manitoba Music Experience, a presentation that spans 50 years. He adds, it was fun to be able to bring the stories to life that the students didn't know.

He hopes his presentation inspired the students to continue making diverse music, just as Manitoba has for years and years. He outlines Manitoba is less than 3% of the Canadian population, but 12% of all Canadian musicians and singers have come from here, or have had their starts here.
