Winnipeg Police were left scrambling yesterday to track down a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle in question was their own, an unmarked Crown Victoria, stolen from outside a member's residence.  The theft has raised questions as to how vulnerable law enforcement vehicles may be.  Here in Portage Constable Dave Spakowski says there are guidelines in place which only allow members to take vehicles home if it's absolutely necessary.
Although the RCMP encourage immobilizers as the best way to protect against auto theft RCMP vehicles aren't equipped with the device.  Spakowski says it isn't a huge concern as the majority of vehicles in Portage are equipped with global positioning systems so they can track the vehicle.
