Some seniors in Portage la Prairie need your help to truly have a happy holiday season.

Portage Service for Seniors resource coordinator Kaylee Hannah says Stocking Stuffers for Seniors is their Holiday drive where they look for all kinds of gifts and goodies to improve the holidays for seniors who need a helping hand. While the organization ran this event for the past five years, it’s only Hannah’s third year of being involved.

“We’re looking for a variety of items,” explains Hannah. “We are looking for hygiene items, as well as socks, mitts, toques, and scarves. We also are looking for activities, so crosswords, word searches, colouring books, and markers.”

She adds, they’ll also accept Christmas ornaments and cards, as well as small food items such as candy, tea, pudding cups, and small soup packets. Monetary donations will also be accepted and the resource coordinator says 100 per cent of those proceeds will go toward finding items for the 200 seniors they intend to shop for this year.

“It's really nice to see the community helping out,” mentions Hannah. ‘All the local organizations, businesses, and we even have some schools helping out as well. It's just nice to have everyone get together and contribute.”

Portage Service for Seniors will be collecting donations until December 19th. If you know of a senior who would like to be added to the list of recipients, Hannah asks that you call them at 204-239-6312 by December 16th to get them listed.
