The sound of snow removal machinery was part of New Year's celebrations in Portage over the weekend.

City crews have worked steadily since New Year's Eve day to get rid of the white stuff. Despite the volume of snow, the City decided not to impose a parking ban.

However, Director of Operations Kelly Braden reminds you the regular snow-clearing schedule is in effect, which means clearing happens following garbage day. He adds if a parking ban's in place vehicles can be towed to a compound or ticketed. Braden points out the City usually only tows vehicles to the nearest clear street when a ban is ordered.

He notes most streets have been cleared, with crews hauling snow away from curbs and parking lots.
