The province's forest fire problems are getting better, with the danger level reduced.

The fire situation in Manitoba has improved in the last five days.

Fire Program Manager Tom Mirus says they have downgraded the fire danger from extreme to high.

But he says forest travel restrictions remain in effect at Birds Hill Park, while areas in the north Whiteshell and Bissett remain very dry.

Mirus says unless we get more rain soon, the forest fire threat will be there all August.

So far this year 494 fires have been reported in our province.
Fourteen of those came over the August long weekend.

All were contained.
