The Portage la Prairie School Division held a board meeting this past Tuesday night. It was a light agenda and the first one since the Municipal Election.

Although it was a light meeting, it still covered a variety of topics, including:

  • A shoutout to the Elections Officers for conducting a smooth and honest election
  • Remembrance Day Ceremonies within schools on Thursday, November 10th
  • No school on Friday, November 11th
  • Teacher contracts
  • Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week from November 13th- 18th

During the meeting, Superintendent Todd Cuddington congratulated incoming trustees Rhonda McCutcheon, Dan Otsuji, Donald Smoke and Greg Waldvogel on being elected.

“We had so many candidates put their names forward, which was great to see that people are engaged and interested in public education in our communities.”

Marie Hélène Hoggarth, Tracey Asham, Yvette Cuthbert, Penny Verwey and Shauna-Lei Leslie complete the board.

Cuddington also spoke about Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week,

“We share responsibility to prevent bullying and to promote healthy and safe environments for children, youth and adults. Manitoba education and early childhood learning schools, families and community members must work together to prevent bullying through education and awareness. By working together, we will strengthen our capacity to create safer school communities, where all students are respected, valued and safe.”

The next scheduled meeting is November 22nd.
