Despite efforts from the community of Sandy Bay Sister Juliana Eligwe is being deported. A Nigerian nun living in Sandy Bay First Nation is being deported.  Sister Juliana Eligwe came to Canada in 2001 claiming refugee status.  Sandy Bay First Nation resident Cecil Desjarlais says the community tried to adopt her and made her an honorary band member to avoid deportation, however the federal government decided she can't stay in Canada.  Desjarlais feels sister Juliana is a major benefit to the community and notes she will be missed.
Desjarlais adds sister Juliana fears returning to Nigeria as she may be persecuted for her beliefs.  She will be deported tomorrow, Desjarlais plans on accompanying her to the airport.
