The Portage Collegiate Saints hockey team did everything but win in Game 1 of their first-round series.

PCI lost a nailbiter 3-2 in overtime to the Dakota Lancers last night. This was the Saints' best game of the season, according to head coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie.

Brielle Caners tied the game 1-1 in the second period, and PCI took the lead in the third as Saidi Mattice put home a rebound opportunity. Unfortunately for the Saints, the Lancers tied the game back up shortly after the goal, which ultimately sent the game to overtime.

The two teams played 18 minutes in the extra frame before the Lancers were able to beat Saints' goalie Abby Reichert on a rebound attempt.

The head coach says this was an extremely physical game, and while they believe they deserved the win in this one, PCI has a chance at redemption tomorrow. The best-three-series will resume for Game 2 at 3:45 at the BDO Centre.
