The Portage Collegiate Saints fastpitch team made their season debut last night at Rotary Republic of Manitobah Park.

PCI fell 11-3 to the Northlands Parkway Nighthawks but held their heads high after the loss. Pitcher Ashley Tooth is very happy softball season is finally here.

"It felt really good (to be playing), actually," Tooth explains. "I was pretty nervous beforehand but after getting in there and throwing the first pitches, I felt really good."

The Grade 11 student was a part of last year's team that lost by one run in the league final. She knows they have the capability of being a great team again this season.

"We had some errors today and I just think we need to work together, so we can do better together and become a team."

Tooth knows one area that should help them play as a unit more, immediately.

"I'd say communication. We were pretty quiet on the field today. With some communication, some of those errors might not have happened."

PCI will be back in action this weekend as they host eleven other teams in the Saints Fastpitch Home Classic tournament. The Saints play at 9:30, 12:30, and 3:30 tomorrow.
