The Rotary Club of Portage la Prairie will soon have a new face joining its ranks.

Dave Roberts moved to Portage from the Pas after living there for 37 years. He says his interest in the Rotary Club was sparked after seeing what the club in the Pas did for their community.

“When I was in the Pas I was heavily involved as a volunteer,” explains Roberts. “In 2015, I actually won citizen of the year. In the Pas, I was a member of the Kinsmen Club, and while they don’t operate here, I wanted to stay active in the community.”

He adds, he saw the Rotary Club in the Pas as a mirror of what the Kinsmen in the area were trying to do, so he knew that he would be able to continue his community work by joining Portage’s club. While he hasn’t been living in the city for too long, he’s already working to insert himself into the community.

“Right now, I'm on the board of directors for Prairie Fusion Arts and Entertainment,” says Roberts.

He was also added to the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) board of directors during their AGM, which took place on November 15th.

Roberts says all that’s left to do before becoming a Rotarian is to have one more background check return, followed by a vote made by the rest of the Rotary Club.
