The Portage Rotary Club was busy at Island Park on Tuesday with their evening meeting.

The club hosts meetings at night as a way of fellowship and to experience different activities within the city of Portage.

Rotary Member Jim Brands explains what the club did.

"We were put throwing discs all over the island, and then we found out we were supposed to be aiming at baskets. This is a great game of golf, and it's called disc golf. It was a lot of fun."

The Rotary Club is involved with the course because the club secured the naming rights to the course.

Portage Disc Golf Board Chair Cody Buhler talks about the Rotary club's support.

"They supported it in a big way when we built this course 5 years ago. To have everyone back here and getting everyone playing is just great, and it's awesome anytime I see people using the course."

The Disc Golf Club is hoping to upgrade its signage in the near future. The club is also hosting a sold-out tournament in August.

Brands acknowledges it's good for the club to experience the fruit of their labour.

"It's important to us a club to get out, follow up, and make sure we are doing the right thing for the community. We're a community club, and we're based on helping Portage la Prairie and growing with it."
