The Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie had a very busy and successful 2017.

Reeve Kam Blight talks about some of the high points.

"I think it was a tremendous year for the RM of Portage la Prairie. We had a lot of activity taking place. We had some paving being done, we had some infrastructure work being done out at Delta. We had a humongous industry announcment, which is historic for the province of Manitoba and of course the RM of Portage la Prairie. I think everything turned out very positive for the RM," says Blight.

Blight says some other highlights include not having any high water issues to deal with.

"It may have been a little drier than some would have like, but however, that allowed to do a lot of work that we haven't been able to do in a lot of years, actually since I've been on council. It's allowed us to move ahead and start redeveloping the campground at Delta Beach, just like we wanted. We've got the infrastructure in place now. We're quite excited about that," Blight says.

The RM has also been financially stable over the year and the past seven years. Blight says they've been able to keep spending flat and have been able to lower mill rates this year due to increases in assessements and industry investments.

He says one negative of the year was the lawsuit with the pool roof at Stride Place, but says overall, the positives outweigh the negatives in our municipality by far.
