Summer officially arrived at 4:14 am. But instead of waking up to blue sky and sunshine, people in the Central Plains are seeing dark clouds and rain showers. Rain started just before 6:00 am and 10 to 15mm are expected today.

Yesterday and today are the longest days of the year as far as daylight is concerned, although you won't notice much change until early July. For now, we only lose a handful of seconds each day.

With a high of 19 in the forecast, it is a big change from 36 hours ago when the temperature hit 36 degrees in Portage and the humidex was 46. Monday was also warm and humid but not quite as hot as the record-breaking temperatures of Sunday. Although Portage la Prairie did not break a heat record that day, many other communities in the area did.
