Manitoba experienced a very dry summer--for Portage la Prairie it was record breaking.  Environment Canada's Dale Marciski says Portage received very little rain through June, July and August.  During the three months the Southport airport only reported 85 millimetres of precipitation, the normal is around 225.  The lack of rain we experienced makes this summer the driest Portage has seen since records began in 1941.
Marciski adds the spring-summer period was the second driest on record for Portage.  As far as this fall is concerned, Marciski says we can expect above normal temperatures with varied levels of precipitation depending on where you are.
