The Portage la Prairie School Division held a board meeting this past Tuesday night, covering an assortment of topics, including:   

  • French Immersion Information Night January 31st 
  • kindergarten Registration Week- February 6th – 10th 
  • The second semester starts for Portage Collegiate Institute students on February 6th 

Following the meeting, Superintendent Todd Cuddington commented on the City of Portage la Prairie approving a new three-year deal for the Portage la Prairie School Division (PLPSD) to keep an RCMP Liaison Officer on duty within schools. 

"I think it's something that's been valuable for and appreciated by the school division and all our community partners. We appreciate the fact that the city was eager to partner on it. It's been a long. It's been a long relationship between the division and the city."

Cuddington says the position of Liaison Officer is critical to the division.

"When we do have serious incidents that involve our schools. It's nice and reassuring for the school division, the parents and the students that know that police presence is there when we need it."

The contract for the officer will be split between the City of Portage la Prairie and the PLPSD. The annual cost for an RCMP liaison officer is currently $132,384.

The next board meeting is scheduled for February 14th.
