Last night, an overland flood warning was issued to all areas south of Highway 1 and Highway 16 in Manitoba as up to 150mm of rain was forecast in thunderstorms. It looks like a good part of the Central Plains is already halfway there and more showers are expected throughout the day.

Rainwatcher Henry Romance recorded 73.6mm of rain in the city of Portage between 5:15 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Large amounts of rain also fell south of the city in the Gainsborough area. Barb Jack had just under 70 millimeters in her rain gauge while a neighbour was overflowing at 75mm. (3 inches)

Heavy rain also fell in the Holland/Treherne area with Holland receiving close to 60 millimeters in one hour between 4 and 5 a.m..

More rain is expected to fall today and a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the area.
