The Portage Regional Recreational Authority is bringing the 2023 Manitoba 55+ Games to the community.

General Manager Angie Shindle says they had submitted a bid to host in 2021 but were unable to do so because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that we look to be getting back to pre-pandemic life, they were reached out to about hosting next year, and the PRRA was happy to oblige.

"The Games will take place from June 20th to 22nd, 2023 and there will be a variety of activities going on throughout the community," explains Shindle. "From bowling to swimming to golf, we also have pickleball, horseshoes, bocce ball, and tons of different activities throughout those three days."

She adds they'll also be holding an awards ceremony and a banquet for the games. Shindle notes, that after having to wait for the past few years, she couldn't be more excited to have the 800+ participants come to Portage.

"Just bringing in that tourism activity and community engagement is always huge," mentions Shindle. "(I think) Portage is such a welcoming community for that."

She notes the PRRA is excited to bring the event back for the first time since 2004.
