Local performers got the chance to take the stage after a two-year hiatus this week. Prairie Players, one of the drama clubs here in Portage la Prairie, is performing their show directed by Pam Stinson, Steel Magnolias.

PortageOnline got the opportunity to catch up with Stinson and a couple of her cast members earlier this week, and they are so excited to be back on the big stage.
The director notes that much teamwork goes into preparing for a show of this size.

"We had to use quite a few living rooms and simulated areas. Then all of a sudden, being able to have this space and move around and find the prop or the telephone table, they pulled it off and continued to shine on stage."

Stinson says that although they had to crunch, seeing the play on opening night was breathtaking.

"Well, as director, I got to sit in the audience after bringing opening greetings, and I was thrilled with what my vision unfolded on the stage into reality. It was a dream come true. "

Alanna Downey, who is playing the lead role of Shelby in Steel Magnolias, cannot be happier with being able to step on stage again.

"We're super excited to be on stage again, and hopefully, you guys feel the energy we feel on stage." She continues,  "Especially after COVID, like anyone who maybe missed out on that little bit of extra social activity. I mean, these are members of your community, and you would be surprised at the different areas that everyone on stage comes from. So, I would not be surprised if you already knew somebody."

The show has been on for the past couple of days, but you can go and see the last show tonight starting at 7:30 p.m. with the doors opening at 7:00 p.m.
