Portage la Prairie's Wawokiya program was presented a minivan from the RCMP for transportation purposes last week, and now they've been granted a brand-new set of tires.

On Tuesday morning, Wawokiya coordinator Mari Lawrence was presented a cheque from Kal Tire manager Darren Malchuk for $1500 to purchase a new set of tires as well as a gift basket with accessories.

Lawrence discusses what this means to her program.

"We're a nonprofit, so anything we can get from the community always helps us, and we're always happy to see local businesses contributing to the community."

Malchuk says that it feels great for Kal Tire to help a community group, noting that they have been helping nonprofits for a couple of years with donations like this, but this is the first time they've been able to give away the funds in person due to the pandemic.
