The chair of the Provincial Ploughing Association expects to see some tight competition today.

The Portage and District Association is holding the Central Manitoba Ploughing Competition, with the victors expected to move on to the provincial playing field.

Allison Briggs feels ploughing is a part of our heritage, dating back several decades.  To him, it provides added importance to witnessing the event, adding it's a shame ploughing has been forgotten.

Briggs refers to the event as a heritage sport, and he notes it's emerging.

The competition will be held on PTH 240, half a mile north of the Manitoba Developmental Centre.
