It's the warmest January 3rd in history for Portage.

Temperatures rose to eight degrees this afternoon, breaking 1984's record high of just over five degrees.

The temperatures for the rest of the week in Portage will cool off, but Environment Canada's Dale Marciski explains they won't reach the normal.  The normal high is minus 13 and the normal low is minus 23.

Portage isn't the only place breaking records -- temperatures in Dauphin, Brandon, and Melita, to name a few, were all time highs as well.

Although snow cover usually prevents temperatures from rising, Marciski explains a warm Pacific air mass is helping to curb that.
