The Portage la Prairie School Division held a board meeting Tuesday evening. It was a light agenda but still covered an assortment of topics, including:

  • Kindergarten registration still available at schools within the division
  • Enrollment being up +123 students from January 2022, as the division now sits at 3502 students
  • Manitoba Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning, Wayne Ewasko, proclaiming March as Student Presence and Engagement Month
  • 2023-24 budget discussion, as the budget should be finalized in a matter of weeks

Board Trustee Gregg Waldvogel spoke with PortageOnline about Student Presence and Engagement Month.

"Student presence and engagement go hand in hand," continues Waldvogel. "It's an excellent theme for the month."

Waldvogel adds that this month should remind students that being present and engaged is essential for moving into a career or even the following grade.

The Board Trustee notes that the board was delighted with the community's involvement in 'I Love to Read Month.'

"I think the people that do it are really happy with how it went, and we look forward to doing it again."

The next scheduled board meeting will take place on March 14.
