Portage la Prairie RCMP received two reports of stabbing incidents within the last week.

On February 4th at 9:30 a.m. Portage RCMP was made aware of a report that a man had attended the hospital with severe stab wounds.

The 27-year-old man from Portage was treated and released. RCMP continued to investigate the incident.

Then, days later, on, Thursday, February 9th, at approximately 5:50 a.m. Portage RCMP received a report that a man had been struck in the head with a machete.

The 25-year-old male victim, from Portage, was uncooperative with police and did not want the matter investigated. However, police say that they were able to determine that the man was the suspect in the assault on February 4th, as was a 28-year-old woman from Dugald, who was also present at the scene. She was arrested.

After the victim was treated for his injuries, he was arrested. Both suspects were charged with Aggravated Assault with a Weapon.

The RCMP notes that the victim in the original assault is not a suspect in the attack with the machete. It does not appear that the second attack was related to the first attack other than that the suspect and the victim were the same.
