The Portage Pickleball club is starting to make a name for themselves in the community and looks to continue that as we approach the summer months.

President Sue Davidson says the tennis-like sport has been slowly gaining popularity not just in Portage, but around the world. She notes they'll be able to provide more programming due to a grant sent to them from ParticipACTION, a Canadian non-profit that promotes healthy living.

"The idea is that between June 1st and June 30th. It's sort of a vehicle to get communities moving and socially connecting through physical activity," explains Davidson.

She adds they'll have three events happening in June, and will provide paddles and balls for those looking to step on the court, as well as prizes and snacks. The three events will take place on June 9th, 16th, and 23rd.

"I think we felt like we wanted to reach out to the community," mentions Davidson. "We've recently gone through a bit of a fundraising process to put up new courts at on the island and the community has been so amazing to us."

She hopes the community comes out to try their hand at a new, yet somewhat familiar sport.
