The titans of the Santa Clara Baseball League (SCBL) will battle on July 5, and the winners will seek to claim the regular-season pennant.

The Portage Padres have had a stellar run through the 2024 season so far, with a record of 8-3-1 to show for it. This places them just half a game back of the league-leading Plumas Pirates, who hold a record of 9-3. With only two games each left for these two squads, the winner of this game will have a significant advantage toward playoff seeding.

The Padres have had the Pirates' number so far this season, winning both faceoffs. The first game was a high-scoring affair, with the Padres outlasting Plumas 14-12. While the second game was a more defensive effort by both squads, Portage still won in a fairly comfortable 7-4 fashion.

On top of having the easiest round-one matchup in the playoffs, the team that claims the regular season will have the opportunity to play some provincial-level ball against the rest of Manitoba's best.

The first pitch of this potentially season-deciding game will be thrown at 7 p.m.
