A partner with BDO Dunwoody in Portage says the firm's mileage compensation rates have increased 40 per cent since 2002.

Back then the rate was set at 35 cents per kilometer, now employees are being offered 50 cents.  Mark Verwey isn't surprised by the rate increase considering the gradual hike in gasoline prices, and feels it only makes sense to follow suit.

Meanwhile at Portage Credit Union, general manager Dave Omichinski recently issued an increase to 41 cents from 40 cents.  He feels the raise was fair as it reflects the average activity of gas prices, influenced only by lasting hikes in gas.

Omichinski notes the mileage compensation rate is reviewed regularly and ensures it's consistent with what's being offered in other Credit Unions.
