It's an example of neighbours watching out for neighbours. That's how Portage RCMP Constable Dave Spakowski describes the events leading to the arrest of three people in connection with a break-and-enter. An anonymous call came in around 7 o'clock yesterday morning about several items being taken into a house on 8th Street Northwest. A search found they were stolen. Spakowski credits the caller for the arrests, noting if you see something suspicious, you don't have to reveal your identity if you call police.
Spakowski adds this is a positive example of what can happen when people notify the police about suspicious activity.
A snowblower, bicycle, jewelery, audio equipment, and assorted tools were found. The suspects face charges of break-and-enter, theft, and possession of stolen property. The RCMP are investigating possible links to other crimes.
