The Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation is looking to help spread the message of Pride Month and Anti-Racism Week by painting over some of the crescent walkway.

Youth intern for Communities Building Youth Futures Jacinda Houle says it's vital to get out in the community and do things to show support, as that's the next step to achieving the change they want to see.

"It's all to show the community that we're here and representation is important," notes Houle. "So, I think this is a great start for representation in the community, doing the painting of the sidewalk."

Raymond Van Saten, owner of iRock Paint, and painted the Pride portion of the walkway, mentions that he hasn't gotten the opportunity to work on floor paintings too much, and was excited to get to work.

"It's nice to be able to give back to the community, especially when they're so supportive of the business itself," explains Van Saten. "Painting walls is 1 solid color to be able to paint the artwork is much, much different."

Anti-Racism Week lasts until June 10th, and June is International Pride Month.

NOTE: The Anti-Racism Week portion is still in progress. We will update this story once it's completed.
