The Portage Collegiate Trojans remain undefeated in the Winnipeg High School Football League's Division 2, after a 56-7 win over the St. John's Tigers yesterday.

The Trojans came out guns blazing, as Ian McCutchin threw a 50+ yard touchdown pass to Colby Irwin on their first possession. However, the Tigers responded. Just moments later, on the ensuing kickoff, Josh Farber ran the ball all the way back for the touchdown. From then on it was all PCI.

Two minutes late McCutchin threw his second touchdown of the day to Irwin. 13-7 Trojans.

After a rushing touchdown from Kyler Banfield and a two-point conversion, the Trojans were up 21-7. Irwin showed he can play both sides on the ball as he picked off the opposing quarterback and returned it for his third touchdown of the day.

After one more receiving touchdown from Irwin and a few rushing touchdowns punched in after fumble recoveries, the Trojans left the field victorious.

Head coach Donald Burrell explains the major key in the win.

"Our offensive line," says Burrell. "They pretty much took control of the football game from the start. The difference is we have a big offensive line and they're taking a lot of pride in opening up holes for the running backs."

Burrell also talks about the day Irwin had and what it meant to the team.

"Colby is a big-time player," says Burrell. "He's one of our key players, both offence and defence. I just love watching the kid play. Each and every week he seems to want to come up with big plays for us, and he does. He's a special player, that's for sure."

The Trojans look to keep the win streak alive Thursday, October 3rd in Brandon against Crocus Plains.
