Students in Portage la Prairie are recognizing their teachers this week by saying thank you. Teacher appreciation week has come and gone, and PortageOnline caught up with some Grade 12 students at Portage Collegiate Institute to chat about some of their favourite teachers.

Seth Griffin said that Mrs. McRae is his favourite teacher for many reasons.

"I respect her a lot. She only takes a little trash from students. She's disciplined. She works hard, whether marking assignments or tests or even teaching the material. She makes sure we know the material before the assignment or tests."

Amelia Rintoul says she has multiple favourite teachers at PCI, Ms. Thompson, Ms. Asham, and Ms. McRea. Rintoul says that taking a week to thank teachers is awesome.

"I think they work really hard to try and make school as enjoyable as possible for kids, and I think that's super important."

Layton Smith said that Mr. Wermie has to be his favourite.

"I can talk to him about anything, movies, music, books, and of course, English since he is an English teacher."

When we asked Jordan Thorsteinson about her favourite teachers, she said she had many favourites because 'these guys are so cool.' But she did mention a couple of teachers, like her French teacher Mrs. Tessier, her English teacher Mr. Wermie, Mrs. Nelissen and the lunch ladies.

"They're so nice, really calm, and pretty upbeat, but they also instill confidence in the students and I really like that. They can work with a wide variety of students, and they use creativity in their teaching."

Needless to say, these students appreciate their teachers and could not be more thankful for all the lessons they learnt.

If you see a teacher or support staff of any schools this week, make sure you let them know that they are appreciated.
