The Portage Animal Welfare Society is coming off of a paws-itive year, but they are feeling even better about the rest of 2022.

Chair and secretary Taylor Lilley says the work never stopped, even though the pandemic did make things quite difficult.

"Overall, we had another successful year, even though donations were down, basically because all of our main fundraising events were cancelled due to COVID again," says Lilley. "We did begin work on our new animal adoption centre, which is still ongoing, and we're hoping that we will be completing that for late 2022, but we are still requiring additional funding."

PAWS recently started a Low-cost spay and neuter program for cats where you can get your cat spayed or neutered for $75. This includes vaccinations and a rabies shot.

Looking ahead, PAWS is hoping to find their furry friends a forever home.

"We're definitely hoping that 2022 is gonna be our year for events again. We actually are excited to announce we're gonna have an open house/adopt-a-thon on June 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.," says Lilley. "Anyone can come on down and see all of our adoptable animals, both cats and dogs. They can tour our old building and see how that looks versus what our new building is looking like."

You can take part in their Buy-a-Brick building fund campaign and be entered to win a door prize. You can attend the open house at 121-12th Street N.E.
