A Parent Awareness Night to discuss youth and social media will be held at La Verendrye School tomorrow evening. Portage City Councillor Melissa Draycott says the PCRC has hosted this presentation for the last few years, noting it's important for parents to understand the kind of technology their children may be using. Draycott says it can be scary for parents of young people to think about the risks and consequences which are sometimes associated with social media. She notes some adults feel like they've got a good hold on modern technology, but the world of social media changes very quickly and it can be difficult to keep up.

Draycott adds the PCRC is bringing in three guest speakers to discuss youth and technology and everyone is welcome to attend. She says they'll have refreshments on hand and child-minding will be available. Draycott notes they're also holding a draw for a free bicycle, adding kids who put their name in for the draw must have a caregiver in attendance. She says this will be a very informative evening for folks to learn what their children might be looking at on social media as well as some of the dangers which exist. The presentation will be held at La Verendrye School tomorrow, starting at 7 p.m.
