The new principal at Yellowquill School in Portage says he wants to help create quality citizens.

That's Shawn Harkness's goal after taking the post as the replacement for Marg Lisowski who retired last school year.

Harkness has a big challenge ahead of him, and that's getting to know his students and making a connection with their parents.  Harkness explains a new "respect" program at the school will help him accomplish his goals.

As for the role, he admits he has big shoes to fill, calling Lisowski an excellent administrator.  Harkness was transferred back and forth between Yellowquill and La Verendrye -- where he started his teaching career -- before landing the lead role.

Before his eleven years as an educator, he spent nine years as a trustee for the Pine Creek school division.
