A Manitoba Hydro crew has wrapped up work at the corner of 3rd Street Northeast and 4th Avenue in Portage.

They were working on the natural gas side of Hydro's operation, removing an old regulator station, including a building.

Public Affairs Manager Glenn Schneider says it was an old system that used higher pressure than the rest of the community. He points out the changeover allows them to manage the city's gas system more efficiently.

Schneider notes having consistent gas pressure means it's easier to make connections, especially in an emergency. He adds the crew was on-site all weekend, and have filled in their excavation, returning the sidewalk to its place.

They finished up yesterday.
