Opposition to the federal Liberal's proposed tax changes for small business continues, even though the consultation period ended Monday.

Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler says the Manitoba PC government has discussed the issue with Federal Ag Minister Lawrence MacAulay.

"We've made it very clear, through the Premier and myself, and the Minister of Finance, that this is an unfair burden to put onto farm families," he commented. "We know that farm families don't have unemployment insurance, they don't have maternity leave, they don't have a number of things at their disposal that the average day working person does have."

Eichler says that the province has asked the federal government to extend the consultation period, due to the conflict with harvest.
