Marilyn was born on August 10, 1940 in Brockville, Ontario to parents Thomas and Katherine Waddell. Marilyn (Mom, Nana) and her 2 younger brothers, Geoffrey and Alexander, grew up in Brockville, Ontario. In December of 1957, Marilyn’s mom returned from a party and said to Marilyn, “I’ve just met the nicest man, he is too young for me and he is too old for you!” That man was Ron Roteliuk. In the following September, Ron and Marilyn got married in North Bay, Ontario. Over the next five years, they welcomed four children; Ron, Ross, Jennifer and Robert into their family. In the following years, they moved several times through places such as Nipawin Sk., Yorkton Sk., Regina Sk., and Winnipeg Mb., Finally they settled in Portage la Prairie in 1973.

For years mom was busy at home with her children but, later joined the team at ARC Industries. She also worked as the Hostess at the Pizza Place Family Restaurant. Mom always had a wonderful smile for everyone that she worked with and met. Mom enjoyed reading, golfing, swimming, and dancing but, most of all she enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Over the years, Mom and Dad took many trips and cruises to Hawaii, Cuba, Mexico and other warm weather destinations. Mom attended and enjoyed every graduation, every sporting event and every wedding. Her family grew to include sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Mom was lovingly known to her family as Nana and as her family grew, she had a special place in her heart for everyone. Her special gift was to make everyone in her family feel that they were her favourite. Friends also felt her warmth and genuine affection. She was known for always having a kind word and had a wonderful, gentle sense of humour which she shared with everyone.

Mom was a very kind and gracious lady. She had unconditional love for everyone in her family. Mom was always there with her support, compassion and love. To know her is to love her! No one ever left her presence without a hug and a heartfelt ‘I love you!”

Marilyn’s family would like to thank all the doctors and nursing staff at the Portage General Hospital, Health Sciences Centre and to the members of STARS for the care and compassion that they showed to Mom and to our entire family. We would also like to thank family and friends for their love and support during this very difficult time.
