It's great news for local business.  That from Portage Chamber of Commerce Past-President Chris Dyer. He's responding to a recent report that says Manitobans will be spending more money on Christmas shopping this holiday season.

Last year people in our province spent an average of $771 on gifts, this year Manitobans will spend an average of $841.

Although big box stores will see a lot of the traffic this time of year, Dyer believes local businesses have an advantage through the customer service they provide.

He adds annual favourites like the Parade of Lights and Island of Lights draw people downtown which increases the potential for local shopping.
