The province is taking security a whole lot more seriously.

Starting Monday, all security guards will have to undergo mandatory, standardized training and licensing to increase safety.

Andy Koprajda -- general manager at Portage's Cat & Fiddle Nite Club -- applauds the move. He believes the guards should be there to diffuse difficult situations, instead of escalating it by being physical with patrons.

Koprajda feels the new requirements will keep up to the increasing challenges and dangers faced by security personnel.

He predicts the additional training will centre on controlling crowds, but adds his staff won't need much training to meet the new standards.
