Officers from Oakbank / Beausejour RCMP received a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision on Highway 15 on Thursday, leading to many more questions than answers to this point.
RCMP attended to the scene approximately six kilometres east of Dugald. Officers met with the 31-year-old male driver at 1:51 a.m. from the RM of Whitemouth, who informed police that he was driving eastbound in his pickup truck when he collided with an object on the highway.
Police say he turned around and discovered that the object was, in fact, a person. The driver contacted 911 and provided medical assistance until EMS arrived.
The female victim, who has yet to be identified, was found with significant injuries, possibly unrelated to this collision, and pronounced deceased on scene. An autopsy is being conducted to confirm the cause of death.
The victim is described as being 5’6”, with short black hair, 14-15 years of age and weighing approximately 100 lbs. She was wearing light grey coloured sweatpants, a dark grey sweater and black runners.
Anyone with information about this collision or who could help in identifying the victim is asked to contact the Oakbank RCMP at 204-444-3391, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
Oakbank / Beausejour RCMP, with assistance from an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, RCMP Major Crime Services and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, continue to investigate.
