A new personal care home project in Neepawa is a step closer to reality.

The province has announced plans to invest 20 million dollars in the home.

Penny Gilson is the CEO of the Assiniboine Regional Health Authority, and notes it's been in the works for some time. She feels it reinforces the government's commitment to the project. The next step will be actual tender documents.

Gilson says the new home will be 20 beds fewer than the existing personal care facility. Construction is expected to start this spring.

The local community will be responsible for paying for between 10 and 20 percent of the project.
