The MacGregor Wild and Cartwright Clippers matchup set for tonight has been postponed. This is on the heels of the Southern Health region moving into code red for COVID-19 this coming Monday. We will update you with more information regarding the Tiger Hills Hockey League when it has been released.

Original Story:

The Tiger Hills Hockey League is underway and the MacGregor Wild are set to open their season tonight. They will be welcoming the Cartwright Clippers to town.

General manager Trevor Kehler says the recent restrictions in the province responding to the pandemic will affect them.

"We're not able to get all of our players back from last year just because of the zoning restrictions and shutdowns," Kehler explains. "We have a few new players this year until we're able to get through the restrictions that have been set by Manitoba."

The Wild finished last season with an 11-7 record which was also the same as the Clippers. The Wild managed to make it all the way to the Eastern Division Finals last year before losing to the Neepawa Farmers in four games (best-of-five series).

Kehler says this year they will have a very local team including a familiar face to many hockey fans in Portage.

"We have a new local goalie, Rhett Boschman, he's going to join us this year. He played for the (U-18 AAA) Central Plains Capitals last year," says Kehler. "He's going to start in net tonight."

Puck drop for tonight's matchup is set for 8:00 in MacGregor.
