With the weather slowly starting to warm up as we approach spring, the parks committee in Portage has released their concepts for the new skate park for the city.

Steve Hildebrand, chair of the committee, says, back in January, the design was awarded to Transition Skateparks and Scatliff Miller Murray. Now that they have the first concepts, Hildebrand explains he wants the community to make their voice heard when it comes to what will be in the skatepark.

"We've been working with them at developing a plan to make sure we have local input into what the what the park will look like," notes Hildebrand. "That was one of the important parts for us, we want to really make sure there's a local ownership on what's being built."

If you're interested in contributing ideas for the skatepark, he adds you can go to the city's website to find an online survey. The survey will ask about what you like about the concepts, what you hoped to see, and what's important to you when it comes to the skatepark.

He mentions they're still looking for financial contributions if possible.

"This project is is big enough that it's going to take the whole community to be part of," says Hildebrand. "For people that have the ability to really step up, it would be great."

He adds, if the financial requirements are met, they'll break ground on the project around the end of this summer.
