Lloyd William Delf

August 6, 1934 – April 22, 2022

On Friday at Tiger Hills Personal Care home, Lloyd, aged 87 years peacefully passed with his family at his side.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie (nee Verwey) and two daughters: Alison (Dale) and Janice (Bud) and grandchildren: Leandra (Hunter) and Shayna (Jeremie); Bailey (Cassidy) and Brooklyn (Tristan); nieces Marlene (Bob) Walker and Lila (Murray) Lovie as well as his in-laws: Joann (Karl) Voesenek, Geraldine (Gerry) Masson, Bernie Verwey, Arnold (Judy) Verwey, Pat (Owen) Williams, Randy (Shirlene) Verwey, Norma Verwey and Tom Trimble and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Lloyd was born in the Rathwell-Indianford district and attended Gordon Union school until grade eight. His farming career then started north of Rathwell with his father, Bill, in a joint mixed operation. He loved working the land, caring for cattle and driving his team of horses. He purchased a farm west of his family farm just prior to marrying Marie Verwey on July 3, 1965. They worked hard to establish their farm while raising two daughters.

He spent many hours volunteering and working on the rink committees in Rathwell. He was an avid curler of the Rathwell Curling Club. Many great times were had there and in neighbouring community bonspiels.

When he stepped back from farming he remained a farmer at heart as he continued to enjoy helping Marie with the vegetable and flower gardens, keeping the grass mowed and yard manicured. He took great pride in their farm and spent many hours painting fence posts, granaries and keeping the big red barns true to their form.

Lloyd was known for his love of music and dance. Marie and Lloyd enjoyed many hours of music whether humming a tune, listening to records, a Saturday night Polka Party or dancing at an old-time dance.

In his later years, the Tiger Hills Personal Care home became his new residence. Sheer will and determination (and perhaps a bit of stubbornness) kept him going.  It was the continued support of his family, friends and community that enabled him to enjoy the last years of his life to the fullest.

Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, William and Flossie (nee Pollen), infant brother Johnny, sisters and brother-in-laws: Helen (Artie Spencer, Bev Towns), Margaret (Bill Goddard), and mother and father in-law Gerrard and Ida Verwey, and in-laws Idie Trimble and Johnie Verwey.

The family extend their thanks to the entire health care team at the Tiger Hills Health Centre and Personal Care Home.  You have all provided great care and went above and beyond to manage a pandemic and accommodate the needs of our family. Our sincere appreciation and gratitude!

A private family service will take place on Friday, April 29, 2022 at St. Monica Parish, Rathwell, MB. A celebration of Lloyd’s life will follow at 3:30 pm at Rathwell Memorial Community Centre where friends and family may gather.
