Leslie Hugh McLaren

1943 – 2022

Leslie Hugh McLaren (Les) peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 21st, surrounded by his family.

Les was born September 4th, 1943 at the Portage General Hospital and lived in the Gainsborough and Portage area throughout his whole life.

Les was a carpenter by trade and worked at Southport for a few years then became self-employed until a stroke forced him to reluctantly retire.  Les was always there to help anyone who needed it and would bring the laughter and jokes with his sense of humour.

Les was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Laura McLaren, his sister Grace Swidnicki, his niece Debbie and her daughter Arden, his first wife Evette Foster and her daughter Elaine and grandson Gage Foster, as well as his second wife Irma Kwiatkowski and her son Tim.

Les leaves to mourn his siblings June, Bob, Doris, Larry (Rita) and their families and his step children with Evette; Wayne, Melvin, Donna, Gary & Sylence and their families as well as his step children with Irma; Debbie, Wayne, Dwayne, Tammy, Troy and their families.

Les had a special bond with Debbie and Mike Cebry especially during his final years when he relied on them as his abilities began to deteriorate and he could always depend on Wayne (Tera) for help.  Les had fantastic friends and neighbors who would share stories, laughs and check in on him.  He will surely be missed by his good buddies, Ernie Kowerchuk, Ross Hunt and special friend Dana Heape.

At Les’s request there will be no formal funeral service.

He will be cremated and buried at the hillside Cemetery in Portage la Prairie.  Donations can be made in Les’s name to a charity of your choosing. To leave messages of condolence, please visit www.ronaldmoffitmemorialservices.com
