It's eight and counting for Portage City Council in the October 25th municipal election.

Lou Lapointe became the eighth candidate yesterday, joining two other newcomers, as well as five incumbents. Six Council seats are up for grabs.

Lapointe wants to improve strategic planning so things get done. He wants to ensure reports don't end up on the shelf where they're ignored.
Lapointe says crime is a major issue in the city, and Council has failed to coordinate efforts directed at the root causes.

He adds he decided to run because someone needs to take a leadership role on Council so positive policies are created and implemented.
